Bird designs seem to be really hot right now and available in a wide variety of markets. I love looking at the different ways that artists depict birds, what styles and mediums they use, which species they choose to illustrate and what they end up using the illustrations for.
Read MoreI actually am juggling a few job related things (that I sadly cannot share) so I thought I'd share a personal project I'll be working on as time becomes available. I have always been attracted to surface and pattern design. Even when I was little, I believe I was unconciously drawn to print and pattern because I really enjoyed looking at lovely packaging, stationery and greeting cards. I used to hoard my favorite cards I received on birthdays and holidays in a box. I still do keep our kids cards now.
This personal project I'm creating is a surface design collection. I've taken a few Skillshare classes (list below) to help me learn and understand what it takes to get into surface design.

I've finally fleshed out all the elements in Adobe Illustrator (CS6) and have moved everything into Photoshop. I really enjoy working in Photoshop because it's closer to working traditionally.

Read MoreI really enjoy finding wonderful art via Pinterest. I try my best to always pin to the post source (if from a blog) or directly from an artist's site. It's often frustrating when you want to learn more about a piece and you find that the pinner pinned to the blog home and not necessarily the post that had the original image/content you are looking for. This week's Net Picks showcase a few wonderfully illustrated animal characters. I always find it amazing how people can infuse so much character and style into animals in their illustrations!

Read MoreI spent a couple days working intensely on this mermaid illustration. I'm trying to slowly add more to my childrens' publishing portfolio.
I started out with a few sketches and chose a composition I like. I'll probably tackle one or more of the sketches in the near future to sort of build a story around these characters.
