Net Picks - Tropical Inspired
I'm sure many of you are still experiencing the typical cold weather that comes with winter so I thought I'd showcase a collection of lovely warm, tropical selections for this week's Net Picks! I was born and raised in Hawaii so I'm not a stranger to tropical weather (I've only experienced snow once in my life)! It's funny how being surrounded and accustomed to certain wonders on a daily basis can make you take them for granted! I literally grew up in a pineapple field so while some crave the fruit as a delicacy, I actually don't eat it at all.
I chose these four images because they are all warm, colorful and wonderfully fun; feelings that the tropics bring to my mind!
Featured Artists
Mary Blair- I'm a long time lover of Disney animation including many if not all of the features that Mary Blair had some part in creating. She was highly regarded for her talents at Disney during a time when animation was mainly a male-dominated industry. This illustration is from a book that Mary illustrated called I Can Fly (a favorite of mine that I enjoyed reading to my daughter). I love her wonderful sense of whimsy and the charming way she depicted the little girl and fish. I highly recommend the book, The Art and Flair of Mary Blair (the updated version is available while I have the original). It showcases concept art from her time at Disney along with other personal pieces.
Charo Vargas (aka Charuca) - Having grown up on a pineapple farm I had to include a pineapple piece and Charo's is adorable! All of her work is immensely cute. Charo, or Charuca, is an illustrator who obviously loves bringing joy to others through her artwork! I recommend checking out her Instagram feed!
Ine Beerten - Ine is a surface pattern designer from Belgium (love sharing international artists!). Her portfolio is filled with bright and whimsical prints. I appreciated that she shared in her profile that surface design was a hobby that turned into a career! Super inspiring! She too has a lovely Instagram feed!
Margaret Berg - Margaret is originally from South Africa. She now resides in California (what a journey!). She has such an extensive website portfolio! I had actually just discovered her work on Pinterest and I was blown away with her use of bright colors and the flowiness of her watercolors. Her work is definitely a treat for the eyes!
